PENENTUAN LOKASI TEMPAT PEMBUANGAN AKHIR SAMPAH (TPA) DI KOTA BATAM DENGAN GIS

Batam as part of Riau Islands Province has problem with scarcity of land, one of that is landfill area. Currently, the landfill in Batam has not suitable with land use planning. Therefore, we create the alternative area that is suitable for landfill development in Batam City by using Geographical Information System (GIS).
The criteria to determine suitable landfill in GIS processing are:
  • Suitable land fill is calculated only in mainland of Batam;
  • Slope ≤ 20%;
  • Distance from road buffer is 1.500 meter;
  • It has 11 excluded factors based on Municipal’s land use planning, they are: Jalur Gas; Commercial; Sempadan Pantai; Hutan Wisata; Hutan Kota; Pertanian; Waduk dan Danau; Fasilitas Umum; Fasilitas Pelabuhan; Hutan Lindung; Genangan.

    STEPS:
  • 1. Create  new shape file boundary (Bdy), add layer of data: 
    • LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj 
    • Waduk_batam 
    • BufferJalan 
    • Reservoir_batam 
    • roadarteri_batam 
  • 2. Create new shapefile boundary (Bdy): 
    • Open ArcCatalog (C: Data Saving) > right click new > shapefile > input name: Bdy, and feature type: Polygon 
  • 3. Input data inside Bdy: 
    • Click Editor > Start Editing > choose source: C:\GIS type: shapefile > click Ok  
  • 4. Create polygon in bdy shp: 
    • Digitized on the main island of Batam as boundary shapefile
 
  • 5. Save and stop editing: 
    - Click Editor > Save Edits
  • 6. Clip Boundary (Bdy) with LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj: 
    • Open ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Extract > Clip 
    • Fill input Feature With: data\ LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj 
    • Fill Clip Features: Bdy 
    • Fill Output Features Class: C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj 
    • Fill XY Tolerance (optional):  1 > Ok 
    • Result after Clip:
  • 7. Process select: 
    • Open ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Extract > Select 
    • Fill Input Feature With: data\ LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj_Clip1 
    • Fill Output Features Class: C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj Query Builder: “ARAHAN” = “Commercial” > do it with same way with 9 excluded factors (jalur gas; Sempadan Pantai; Hutan wisata; Hutan kota; Pertanian; waduk dan danau; Fasilitas umum; fasilitas pelabuhan; hutan lindung; genangan)
    • Result after selected:
  • 8. Road Clip (to cut the main road connected between main island of Batam (as study area) to another island nearby main island):
    • Open ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Extract > Clip
    • Fill Input Feature With: data\ roadarteri_batam
    • Fill Clip Features with Bdy
    • Fill Output Features Class > C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ Road\roadarteri_batam_Clip1
    • Fill XY Tolerance (optional):  1 > Ok
    • Result of Road in boundary after Clip:
  • 9. Waduk (Reservoir) Clip (to cut the waduk connected between main island of Batam (as study area) to another island nearby main island):
    • Open ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Extract > Clip
    • Fill Input Feature With: data\ waduk_batam
    • Fill Clip Features with Bdy
    • Fill Output Features Class: C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ Reservoir\waduk_batam_Clip1
    • Fill XY Tolerance (optional):  1 > Ok
    • Result of Waduk in boundary after Clip:
  • 10. Open all clip shapefile (only shapefile in boundary: Landuse_clip1, road_clip1,  and waduk_clip1)
  •   11. All excluded data must be union to make in one layer:
    • ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Overlay > Union
    • Fill Input Features with excluded factors features: Commercial_, hutan wisata, jalur gas, genangan, hutan lindung.
    • Output Feature Class : C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ Landuse\ LANDUSE_BATAM_spatadj
    • Joint Attribute (optional): All
    • Resulted of Union: 


  • 12. Buffer Jalan (Buffer Road) 1.500 meter:
    • ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Proximity > Buffer
    • Fill Input Features with excluded factors features: Commercial_, hutan wisata, jalur gas, genangan, hutan lindung.
    • Output Feature Class > C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\ Road\roadarteri_batam_Clip1
    • Fill Distance [value or field] with Linier unit 1500 Meters
    • Side Type (optional) : FULL
    • End Type (optional) : ROUND
    • Dissolve Type (optional) : NONE
    • Resulted of Buffer Road:
  •   13. Create slope:
    • ArcToolBox > Spatial Analyst Tools > Surface > Slope
    • Input Raster with batamelev2
    • Output Raster > C:\GIS\PROJECT GIS FINAL EDIT\Elevation\Slope_batame2
    • Output measurement (optional) : PERCENT_RISE  
    • Result of Slop in Boundary Area:
  •  14. Reclassify:
    • Right click Slop_batame1 > Properties
    • In Layer Properties > Symbology > Choose Show Classified > in Classification Choose Classes 2 and Select Classify
    • In classification choose Manual Method > Break Values 20% and 56% > Ok
    • Resulted of Slop 0-20% and >20%:
    • Resulted of 0-20% slope only:
  • 15. Overlay:
    • ArcToolBox > Overlay > Union
    • Fill Input Feature : Layer Halangan Final (excluded factors + buffer_1500) and layer 0-20% slope
    • And the result is:

  • 16. Final result for suitable landfill area in Batam City:  


Conclusion: The green clusters are suitable location for landfill development in Batam City

    1. Data peta tentang Batam saat ini bisa diakses online di http://peta.bifza.com/ namun untuk mendapatkan file SHP harus registrasi dulu ke BP Batam. Semoga informasi ini bermanfaat.
